"I converse with nature through the creation of art."
When experiencing the outdoors I'm reminded of the impermanence of nature's offerings. The offerings I most connect with is a moment that speaks more quietly. To me, these are spectacular ornaments on our planet.
I'm drawn to nature's weirdly wonderful compositions, textures, and colors, and I paint its gifts of impermanence.
I'm blown away by the natural composition of a tree bark's texture and colors. A small yet fascinating piece of driftwood draws my attention in how the outgoing tide positioned it next to a broken shell. I'm gobsmacked by the marks the water carved into the sand. Stranded kelp captivates me as I notice the tiny treasures trapped within it's messy confines. There's an appreciation for the colors and design within a found bird feather.
My process is a playful conversation with what inspires me.
Often, I use natural linen canvas for its nubby texture and color. It offers a translucent and radiant effect after it drinks in wet paint and glaze. Working with a bold charcoal stick delights me because I'm discovering how to tame it. I love its smudge marks and how it peeks through the painting's layers. Scraping into paint layers can be an exciting effect as it reveals my appreciation of what lies beneath. Gel mediums, water-based cold wax, shapes of paper scraps, inks, pigments, crayons, markers, sewing thread, and acrylic paint allow me to honor what I notice.
While I honor nature in my abstracts, I also honor my feelings. Whatever life experiences I'm present to make an appearance through a depth of colors, shapes, and layers as I open to make sense of what I feel.
My evolving interpretation of life is channeled through creating art.

BIO
Sara’s path of creativity led her to a professional career, beginning in New York City, in global advertising agencies creating media campaigns. Eventually settling in the Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S., Sara transitioned to marketing in several Internet companies before leaving her career in 2013.
Seeking more balance and artful energy, Sara enrolled in art classes mid-career. Prioritizing her passion for painting, she developed her skills in color, value, and composition.
Free to travel more, Sara's adventures allow her to enjoy iconic outdoor vistas. Surprising to her, it's the quieter gems of nature, in its minutiae of textures and colors, that inspire her paintings.
Currently, Sara is creating a collection focusing on her reverence for nature's miracles. She shares her observation of nature's evolving story using acrylic paint, inks, gels, marks, charcoal, and wax.
